Cruisin' 2014 // 1st Day on the Navigator of the Seas

October 19 was finally here and it was finally Boarding Day!! We got up fairly early to make a last minute run for toiletries at Krogers and, of course, a Starbucks run for coffee and breakfast! We were able to start the boarding process at 11 a.m. I was so nervous because me and Ethan were using birth certificates rather than passports. Hindsight, I wish we had passports. I would've saved me a lot of stress, even though nothing "bad" happened. I was really impressed with how smoothly the entire process went and we were on the ship in record time.

{On the shuttle from the hotel to the ship!!}

{My happy "we made it on the ship without problems" face!}

{Awful quality, but I love it.}

After boarding the ship, we explored a little bit trying to acquaint ourselves with our home for the next week! We checked out the spa, the gym, the Windjammer {buffet}, the formal dinning room, and so much more! After seeing the putt-putt golf course and Flo-rider on the sports desk, the guys changed into their swimsuits and played on the Flo-rider until dinner time.

{On the pool deck of the Navigator of the Seas}

{I have about 100 photos of Colin photobombing all our pictures. Ha!}

{Chillaxin' on the deck waiting to be able to check out our rooms}

{Home for a week}

{Balcony selfie}

{Don't worry.. he got better! Haha!}

{By the end of the week both the boys were doing tricks}

We had the 5:30 assigned dinner time {hindsight we all agreed we would have rather had the later dinner because a lot of the entertainment happened at 6 p.m.} so we all got ready and headed down to the Main Dining Room! Each night had a different themed dinner. Of course I had to get the escargot so Ethan could try it out. I love it, but it was his first time trying it, and he did not like it. Haha!

{Main Dining Room}

{At dinner on the 1st night - Escargot}

After dinner we checked out the Promenade, which is in the middle of the ship and it's a main gathering area. I got a super cute floppy hat. Although I didn't get to wear it any on the actual trip since it was so windy, but I plan on getting my monogram on it {like a proper Southern lady} really soon for next beach season! And yes, I'm already counting down the days till Summer 2015! We also played around in the arcade and watched some Sunday Night Football on the big screen by the pool!

{Promenade Shops}

{My floppy hat}

{Colin trying to comeback from my miserable start against Ethan. I do not have the hand/eye coordination for this game!}

After a super long, but super fun and exciting day, we officially started our vacation! Stay tuned for our days at sea and all our stops! :)

Oh, and special thanks to my bff {and fellow traveler} Taylor for a lot of these pictures! You can follow along and see more about the cruise from her perspective here!

Maybe Something You Didn't Know

So remember how I was MIA for a hot minute and said something about scheduling a "get to know me" post while I was out because there's a lot of new faces around here and how that never happened.. Well, Helene and Taylor's prompt for today fits the bill, so I'm going to take a break from vacay recapping to (re)introduce myself around here!

Helene in Between Blogtober

{Hello, world's longest run-on sentence. The grammar Nazi in me just cringed.}

{1} The name's Katie and it's not short for anything.

{2} If granted 3 wishes by a genie, I'd use up one wish to be the world's greatest singer.

{3} My lack of singing ability doesn't stop me from giving world class car concerts. Ethan can attest.

{4} The above-mentioned Ethan is my hubs. He's the bee's knees.

{5} Even though I'm a terrible speller and have a touch of dyslexia, I was a proofreader for a couple years. A dang good one, might I add.

{6} Crazy cat lady. Enough said.

{7} Boy band lover and T.Swift addict. Enough said again.

{8} I'm afraid of heights, but just recently marked "cliff diving, zip lining, and rock climbing" off my bucket list. Maybe sky diving wouldn't be that bad at all.

{9} My blog is semi-secret. As in, only like 5 people I know in real life read it. I'm just not ready to completely share my blog with friends. I'm pretty sure that makes me a big weirdo.

{10} I've had more cats in my life than a normal human should. That or I just had really bad luck when it came to keeping said cats alive.

{11} I've always wanted to be someone's mommy.

{12} My biggest regret is not attending Florida State University for college.

{13} I wish I had solid green eyes. Ethan says they're greenish brown. I say brownish green. I hope one day I have a blonde, curly-headed little boy with emerald green eyes. Swoon.

{14} I'm the oldest of three children. I tend to have those "oldest child" personality traits.

{15} If I had to choose one food to eat for the rest of my life it would be sushi.

Hope you enjoyed getting to know the blonde behind the blog a little more. {Bonus fact: my real hair color isn't blonde.} Like I said earlier, I'm linking up with Taylor and Helene for their #Blogtober14. You should link up too!

Galveston Island & Historic Pleasure Pier

Saturday was probably the most fun I've ever had road tripping. I've made the 6-8 hour drive over and down to Tampa or Orlando too many times to count, but this was my 1st time going West! And I have to say that Louisiana is one stinkin' long state to drive across! I honestly thought we'd never get out of there! Haha! {No offence to any of my LA friends!}

{Also a lot of people asked why we cruised out of Texas.. helpful cruising tip for all those around the Panhandle: The Port at Galveston is the same distance as Port Canaveral!}

We hit the road about 6 a.m. and it was non-stop laughs from there. From made up songs to having "exact change" for the tolls. {Another tip: "exact change" literally means change. Like quarters and dimes. So when you drive into the packed "exact change" line with two $1 bills. You better be able to find 8 quarters fast. I'm still laughing at us all for this one.}

We did go a little out of our way to eat lunch at Chipotle! Hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to get some chips and guac in her life. Amiright?

We reached Galveston Island around mid-afternoon, dropped our bags off at the hotel, and hit up the Historic Pleasure Pier and Downtown Galveston for a couple of fun hours before FSU's big game that night!

{Hanging out in the rocking chairs while Taylor & Colin ride the swings}

{Big nope, nope, and nope for me.}

{Don't let the smile fool you. I was honestly terrified.}

{Lucky game day shoes on! ;) Oh and 1 of 2 basketballs Ethan won. Ethan was the only person the girl had ever seen sink 2 out of 3 tries to win. Way to go, babe!}

{Gorgeous view from the death ferris wheel}

After hanging out at the pier for a couple hours, we decided to go a few blocks over to check out Downtown Galveston Island. They had a lot of really cute shops and since it was Saturday night, they had a live band playing and activities for the kiddos.

{LA King's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlour, Candy Factory, & Coffee Shop}

My favorite part of this store was the penny press. Yes, they made a mean Coke Float, but I was thrilled to see a penny press. Random tidbit about me: I love love love pressed pennies! :) So if anyone out there wants to send me one from your home state/favorite place I'll gladly accept them!

{The guys hanging out while we girls do some knick knack shopping}

It was such a pleasant evening. The weather was amazing and that just-before-vacation excitement was definitely sinking in! We headed back to the hotel to get into our comfy clothes just in time for the FSU vs. Notre Dame game to start! Speaking of that game.. let's just say watching a close game in a hotel room is not ideal for me. I wanted to scream at the TV so many times, but couldn't. I was a stinkin' nervous wreck the ENTIRE game! In the end, we did win! Woo-Hoo a still perfect season! Let's just not make it that close ever again, boys! ;)

{Go Noles!!}

The next morning we got to sleep in a little bit since we weren't boarding the ship until 11. We made a last-minute stop at Krogers {my 1st time ever!} and a breakfast run to Starbucks! {Cruising tip I got from Taylor: bring a cup on the ship. The bars can fill it up with water any time you'd like while you're soaking up the sun! I'm mentioning this here because that's where I bought my cup lol!}

 Stay tuned for our first couple days on the ship! :)

Home Sweet Home

So I've been a little MIA this past week or so, but for good reason. Good reason being I was soaking up the sun on the best vacation ever! Don't get me wrong, I wanted to schedule some posts for while I was out. Especially since there's a lot of new faces around here, but alas, I suck at packing and get so stressed out by it, that those fun little "get to know me posts" never came to be.

I'm not exactly sure how I'll recap the vacation. I mean how do you pack 9 days of fun into a post without it being a monster?! And honestly no one wants to read each day individually. So bear with me as it'll probably be slower than usual.

Last last Friday night {wow.. that's depressing to type} I had a full day at work, then home to finish up all things packing! And since we live about 40 minutes away from our friend's house, we decided to stay at my parent's house for the night so we could get to Taylor & Colin's faster and on the road sooner. We loaded up the boys into their kitty carrier and away we went. Of course, not without an accident in the carrier. And remember this isn't the first time this has happened. Whatever. We made it to my parent's, all a little frazzled, but we make it. And we get baths.. again.

Once there I took out my entire suitcase and ironed everything I could. Helpful cruising tip: there's no irons aboard. The Downy Wrinkle Release Spray does work wonders. I asked my mom where she kept her garment bag. Spoiler alert: she doesn't have one. "That's ok," I think. Ms. Jamie or Ms. Cathy {my mom's best friends/neighbors} surely have one. Nope and nope. So, what's girl to do when she doesn't have a garment bag mere hours before she's supposed to leave? She calls her Grandma who's out of town to ask if she has a spare {she does!} and then at 10:30 at night drives over to her empty house to find said spare bag.

I don't think I went to bed until 1 a.m. that night {morning?}. But everything was packed and I checked our little envelope that carried our birth certificates, marriage license, and boarding passes about 100 times. Another cruising tip: although not required, get a pass port. It'll save you a lot of stress.

5 a.m. came real early and real fast. Especially after going to bed barely 4 hours prior. But Saturday was officially Day 1 of our trip so I was up and ready to go! Clothes ironed, bags repacked, little travel envelope within close sight. It was finally road trip to cruise time!

Stay tuned for more vacation recapping fun! {I've got mountains of laundry to do and things to unpack.. who am I kidding? I've always got mountains of laundry..}

Hey Friday Hey // Packing & Prayers

Hey, it's Friday.. you know the drill.

{1}
So this is happening!! Eek! Suitcases are out of storage and stuff is going in them! And by stuff I mean about 8 pairs of shoes and 10 different bikinis.. Hey. A girl needs options!

{2}
Remember when I said darling hubs got a nasty rope burn from the mud run we did last Saturday? Well, said nasty rope burn turned nasty infection and we're leaving on the big boat on Sunday! Our Wednesday night was spent at Urgent Care getting lots and lots of antibiotics! Please say a prayer for fast healing for my Love! His leg is looking better, but still not healed and I really really want to go on our excursions we have planned!

{Not what I want to see 3 days before leaving the country..}

{3}
I've been doing the Crest 3D Luxe Whitestrips this past week and I'm really liking the results! The strips are hard to fitto your teeth perfectly, but my results after just 1 week are really good! I really wish I had taken before/after pictures!

{4}
I wish I could take a picture of my sweet cat Jerry trying to cuddle/get comfortable on me at night when I'm trying to go to bed. But.. this cartoon hits pretty close to home.

{just replace the dog with a 20 lb. cat}

{5}
Got my pre-cruise mani and pedi with Taylor Thursday night. We tried out a place I had never been before and I just wasn't impressed. It's probably because we showed up at 5:30 both wanting shellac and pedicures and they close at 6:30, but man that was the most un-relaxing pedicure ever. My nails look pretty good, but overall I'm not impressed and won't be going back there.

That's about it for this week! It's been so crazy busy trying to get everything together for our trip that my week has just flown by! We booked this cruise on our 4th wedding anniversary back in June, so I'm pumped that it's finally here! I'm looking forward to enjoying the next 9 days on vacation!

Mud Run Fun

I've officially completed my 1st 5K! Check that one off the 'ole bucket list!

{Our "After"}

Granted, we walked ALOT, but it's still a 5K! If the goal was to finish completely muddy we nailed it! Also, in my books free t-shirt = legit.

{Our "Before"}

We couldn't have asked for a more gorgeous day than this past Saturday was! Our heat time was 9:00 a.m. and I was super nervous, mostly because I'm not a runner and I didn't want to get hurt right before our cruise!

{Obstacle #1 for the Day}

{Army Crawl under the ropes in the mud..}

{Gross gross gross, but so fun}

We all finished the 5K pretty unhurt.. except for my sweet hubs. There was this one obstacle where you sloth crawled down a line over this huge mud pit. He freakin' zoomed through it like a champ. And in the process got some major rope burn on the back of his calf. It was impressive how fast he did it, but I don't think it was worth the pain he's been in. I'm just hoping and praying it heals better before Saturday!

{Mid Race}

The obstacles were fun and a lot of them were super challenging! I really like the mud pit one the best! It had about 5 mud hills you had to climb, then you slid down into a mud pit. Luckily none of us lost any shoes!

{Ethan, Sarah & Colin helping Taylor up}

{Fun in the Mud}

{I love this picture of the boys, too bad it's blurry!}

{On top of a mud hill}

Next year we are all totally doing it again! And hopefully with costumes! I'm not-so-secretly hoping for either some sort of super heros or the ninja turtles! Haha!

{About to slide down the huge slide to the finish line!}

{Done! And "cleaned" off by the human car wash}

{At the Finish Line}

The Mud Run was so much fun and I'm so happy we signed up! It was a great day filled with lots of laughs (see above picture for dat lean..) and time with great friends! Not to mention another win by Florida State to top off the day! ;) You know I had too!

Most of the photos are from my friend Katie, but a couple of them are from Stephen Moody on the Pensacola Mud Run Facebook page!
