My Beach Babe

I grew up at the beach.
It was what we did on the weekends and every chance we got during the summer.
I remember the PB&Js and Capri Suns.
Pretending to not hear Mom when she says it's time for more sunscreen.
Rubbing sand on the jellyfish stings.
Feeding chips to the seagulls and annoying every person near us.
Thinking we could dig a hole deep enough to reach China.
Building the tallest sand castle only to knock it down.
Diving for hermit crabs and other shells.
Being cold and wrapping up in a sandy towel.
And finally passing out on the car ride home.

These beach memories are my favorite.
And I can't believe I'm lucky enough to have a daughter to make these same memories with.
I can't wait to spend more days at the beach with her.
And for her to get these same memories.
Minus the jellyfish stings, of course.

5 on Friday // Charlotte Says Edition

You can definitely see a little personality coming out in Charlotte these days.
She's sassy. She's spunky. She's stubborn. She's sweet.
She's also doing some things I find hilarious and I don't want to forget!

{1} She says "frog" like she's a sailor. She'll make your Mama blush! Or at least this Mama. Because we don't use wordy dirts like that in our house. It all started about a month ago when she was running up and down my Mom's couch dropping F-bombs like nobody's business. I recorded her, naturally, like the good 21st century Mama that I am, so I have that memory blackmail forever. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what she was really trying to say. Fast forward a couple weeks and we're reading a Noah's Ark book. I was asking her "what animal is this?" "what does the lion say?" when we got to the frog page. And there it was - Charlotte's frog.

{2} Charlotte is a touch of a girly girl. I say a touch because she loves to get down and dirty in the dirt. It's a struggle to keep her fingernails clean. But she is not a fan of bugs. We were taking a walk last week and she was riding in her push bike. I hear "ew ew ewwwwww" from her. I stopped and poked my head around just in time to see her flicking a bug off her hand and saying "bug!" Also, the other day she wouldn't walk in my mom's garage because she saw a bug. Turns out the "bug" was a scrap of paper, but she wouldn't go past it until the "bug" was removed.

{3} She's obsessed with oatmeal. I don't even ask her what she wants for dinner anymore because I know I'll hear "oh-meel." She also can eat her weight in fruit snack gummies and dill pickle slices.

{4} She's also becoming a Master Bedtime Manipulator. A few weeks ago this all started and before "that night" she went to bed no problem. Repeated "night night" and "love you" right after us and was basically asleep by the time we closed her door. But one night, after my mom said she didn't eat well all day, we go to lay Charlotte down for bed and she looks up with sad eyes and says "eat." She's never done this before and there's no way I was sending my baby to bed hungry. So 20 minutes later with a belly full of oatmeal, she goes to bed. Except the next night, as we lay her down, she gets this glimmer in her eyes and pops her head up with an "eat?" And it's been that way ever since that night. Oh, and she's added on to her list of "demands." We get eat, paci, night night, rock, and milk. Every. Single. Night. We've gotten smarter and will make sure she's eaten at least an hour before bedtime, had a sippy of milk, and all her other demands right before bedtime, so when she asks for them we don't feel bad about telling her no.
Ok, I lied. I feel bad every time for telling her no to rocking.

{5} One quick funny story to end it. The other morning, like all mornings, I have to wake Char up to go to my mom's house for the day. I normally just scoop her out of bed and get her in the car without much handling. But that morning she requested "milk" as I walked by the fridge. So I put her on the counter, told her to stay, and went to the fridge for milk. I hand the sippy to her and without missing a beat - she takes it, flips it over to look at the bottom, cuts her eyes at me, cuts her eyes back at the bottom of the sippy, and hands it back to me. Basically her sassy little way of letting me know she wanted chocolate milk.

A Weekend in Pictures// My Summer Baby

So it's been a hot minute. So much has happened and a certain little one has grown so much. And while the days go by and I neglect this little space of mine, the little one is still growing and then I look back and regret not writing down more about her.

Because honestly I could fill pages and pages about her. Charlotte is simply the best. I promise an update on her soon! But for right now, let's do a weekend in pictures!

Since last week, Char now gets to spend her Friday's with her other Grandma! It's such a win-win! Charlotte gets to spend time with her Grandma, while her Nana gets a break! They play outside a lot and that's a great day in Char's book!

Friday evening for about 30 minutes, I got my very first taste of what life with 2 under 2 would be like. And all I've got to say is - God bless you Mamas that do this on the regular! "My baby" was a dream. He slept the whole time his actual Mama was out running to the store, but my big baby.. Oh man! It's like she knew I was all tied up holding the sleeping baby and proceeded to create a disaster area in her room. Blocks dump, play food every where, every drawer on her dresser opened! Holy Cow! I was amazed at the chaos she created in 30 short minutes! Haha! That being said, I'm in no rush for another sweet, sleeping baby!

Friday night we grabbed dinner with some friends. Poor Char couldn't hang and thank goodness for awesome friends with a baby too.. because they had an extra paci when we didn't! ::Praise Hands::

 Friday night we spent the night at Grandma's beach house and woke up to a pretty sunrise. Not by choice.. because trust me.. I would have loved to have slept past 5:50. But, it gave me some sweet time with my girl. We walked down the dock and watched the fishermen next door load their boat. Then we ate oatmeal and oranges on the balcony.

A little bit later we headed down to the beach. It was the best day so far of the year. 80 degrees and beautifully sunny! We played in the sand, kicked around in the freezing cold water, and I attempted to get a little sun on my glowing white legs!

 That night we hit up the mall for a little family dinner and fun time. We ate at a new pizza restaurant Pieology and it was amazing! Basically a Subway, but for your pizza! It was inexpensive and so so good! I can't wait to go back!

Sunday morning we went to church and I'm proud to say Char made it the whole time in her Sunday School! Granted, the nursery workers did say she only wanted to be held the whole time, but at least I didn't get called out of service?! Mom win? Um.. yes! Once we got home I had to grab a few pictures of her in her Sunday dress!

{The new "cheese" face.. it's horrible! Haha!}

{SASSafrass!}

{JUMP!}

Honestly, she wasn't having the whole "photo shoot" thing, so we I gave up and we went inside for lunch. This girl. One day she'll eat anything, the next she's the pickiest eater I've ever seen. Also, don't trust her when she asks for something. Aka.. bananas. She doesn't like bananas. Don't let her fool you. What she does like is pickles dipped in ketchup. Gag. Also, she's super laughing in these pictures because her Daddy burped. Loud. And she thought it was hil-a-rious! She's kinda gross, but I love it!

The rest of these are my favorite pictures I've taken of her to date. I'll be framing all of them. That's not too much, right? Haha! But for real, she's the best and she lights up any room with that smile!

{Laughing at Mama's sneezes}

After I had completely annoyed Char with a million pictures, we took advantage of the gorgeous sunny day. I think one of my favorite things about Char's age is how much that they absorb of what you say. I told her one time that we were going to put on sunscreen and her swimsuit and we were going to play outside. The rest of the day she talked about her "shoot shoot" and the "wahtuh." She's an outside loving, water playing kinda girl. I can't wait to spend the rest of the summer soaking her up.

Hope everyone else had a great weekend filled sunshine and fun! I can't wait to do it all again next weekend! :)
